Talking with our Assistant Almoner
Our Assistant Almoner supports our Almoner in looking after the welfare of our Lodge Members, their families & our Lodge’s widows. We asked him to explain how he became a Freemason in the first place.
So, what is your background…
I’m 62 years young. I retired from work 2 years ago having achieved 42 years service with an engineering company, Schneider Electric. I became the Industrial and maintenance manager in 2020. I enjoy playing golf, gardening and travel.
When did you become a Freemason, and how?
I joined freemasonry in 1989. My interest started with the Father-in-law by being invited to many social events, weekends away, golf, Ladies Nights etc. Masonry was sociable, friendly and every body seemed to be full of life. I was invited to a Lodge “Gavel Night” which gave me a better insight into masonry. I joined Lodge not long after.
What sort of person makes a good Freemason?
Freemasons are very charitable, compassionate, and show empathy in all areas of life.
What is your overall opinion about Freemasonry?
Freemasonry enables you to meet friends on a regular basis and get to know new friends. It also keeps your mind active. I really enjoy the socialising, the history, visiting other Lodges, and seeing other rituals.
You joined Pilgrim Lodge, when your Mother Lodge closed down, why did you choose to join Pilgrim Lodge & how have you found it so far?
Pilgrim Lodge is a friendly & forgiving Lodge, that goes above and beyond when it comes to Lodge Widows and it’s members when they are not so well. The camaraderie is excellent which creates a terrific atmosphere!
Thanks for taking the time to talk with us!
